Die Skyline von Chalkida | Die Skyline der Festlandseite von Chalkida (Χαλκίδα). Chalkida ist die Hauptstadt der der griechischen Insel Euböa (Εύβοια). Chalkida erstreckt sich über beide Seiten der Meeresstraße Euripos (Εύριπος), welche zwischen dem griechischen Festland und der Insel Euböa liegt. Über den Dächern der Promenade ragt die Kuppe der griechisch-orthodoxen Kirche "Ekklisia Evaggelismos Theotokou" (Εκκλησία Ευαγγελισμός Θεοτόκου). Im Vordergrund spiegelt sich die Skyline im Morgenlicht in der Meeresenge von Euripos. Die Meerenge ist an der engsten Stelle nur 40 Meter breit und gilt als schmalste Meerenge der Welt. Eine Besonderheit der Meerenge sind die wechselnden Gezeitenströmungen. Die regulären Gezeitenströmungen wechseln alle 6 Stunden die Richtung. Zwei mal pro Mondmonat treten die irregulären Strömungen auf, die bis zu vierzehn mal am Tag die Richtung wechseln.
